Towing vessels, sailboats, fishing boats, ships with mechanical problems, dive tenders, dredges or vessels doing some sort of work all have unique lights and day shapes.
Any vessel under way using a motor and not currently fishing or doing some other type of work is considered a power driven vessel. That includes a sailboat that is motor-sailing.
Power driven vessels should stay out of everyone else's way except seaplanes.
